It has been reported that the University of East Anglia has been involved in a personal data breach. According to reports this is the second time in 5 months that the University has been breached. On Sunday 5th November this year around 300 postgraduate students received an email, which contained personal information about the health of a staff member at the university. This incident occurred after the university accidentally used an email distribution list.
The IT department at the university remotely extracted this email from the accounts the email had been sent to. They then contacted all the students involved and asked them to remove any other additional copies of the email that they may have. The university released a statement saying that they apologise for any inconvenience caused by this issue and that it wasn’t intentional and shouldn’t have happened.
