PayPal involved in a leak!
It has been reported that PayPal have identified a potential compromise of personal information for approximately 1.6 million customers. The positive news is that PayPal aren’t to blame for the leak of the personal information. The fault falls with a company called TIO Networks, a Canadian payments company who were acquired by PayPal in February 2017 for $233m.
The deal completed in July 2017, after the completion PayPal reviewed the systems that TIO use and they managed to find some issues. These issues were very severe and as a result of these findings they suspended TIO operations on November 10th 2017.
A statement from TIO announced that PayPal uncovered evidence that unauthorised users had accessed the network at TIO, this included locations that held personal information on some of TIO’s customers and customers of TIO’s billers. The company hasn’t contacted all the affected retailers, billers and customers as yet, but they are trying to do so as soon as possible.
