Research from a company called Usenix Enigma 2017 has revealed that older people particularly older women are more susceptible to scams. People tend to think that older people are more aware of issues like this, but this research has highlighted that sadly this isn’t the case.
There was a test involving 158 old and young people which was hosted by a university in Florida. A logger was installed on the machines that recorded every click and website that they visited. The users were sent a scam email everyday. The research would highlight who is clicking on the scams and phishing links.
Over a 3-week period 43% of the users followed links to the phishing sites, 10 % of the people failed for 2 or 3 of the tests.
