Hackers and cyber criminals have been busy in creating a new variant of Mirai IoT malware. This new variant goes a bit further than flooding certain sites with junk traffic, its capable of carrying out application layer attacks.
The Mirai source code was publicly available which has led to the hackers experimenting with lots of different types of malware. All the testing and experimenting has been done over the last few months by the hackers. It has already been used against a school in the US which happened late last month this attack lasted 2 days.
