London University hit by ransomware!
The University College London was tackling a serious ransomware infection last night; the outbreak has scrambled a number of academic files on the network. It is feared that the software nasty might be exploiting a zero-day vulnerability. The other thoughts are that it could be a new strain of malware that scanners aren’t aware off yet. Everyone has been urged not to open any more email attachments, due to them potentially been booby trapped with some ransomware nasties.
The Information Services Division (ISD) at the college have said that access to shared drives and networked drives has been locked down. It has been reported that the siege started through a phishing email, although this still needs to be confirmed.
