A high end Austrian hotel parted with thousands after it was breached by ransomware. Cybercrooks hacked the hotels computer systems and locked all the guests out of their rooms. The hotel decided to go public with its issues in the hope it would act as a warning to other hotels. This isn’t the first time the hotel has been hit it has happened before.
The crooks demanded $1,605 to unlock their systems, whilst the issue was happening the hotel couldn’t program any key cards which prevented access to rooms for new arrivals and guests that were already checked in. Once the ransom had been payed the crooks corrected the mayhem which allowed the hotel to re program keys.
