Hackers use Smart Phones to Hack ATM Machines!
According to police in Taiwan a pair of Russian nationals used their smart phones to steal cash from dozens of ATM machines on Sunday before leaving the country the next day. Having investigated the ATM machines in more detail there were three different types of malware running on them.
It is not clear how the machines got infected or when they were infected without further investigation. As a precaution the First Bank along with several other banks in Taiwan suspended their ATM machines from working until the source of the attack was found and cleaned up.
Some people believe that the cyber-attack was caused due to the ATM machines using default network authentication details. It is always important to change passwords from their default settings to ensure your systems are well secured against the elements.
It is always important to have your IT systems checked by a third party to ensure they are functioning as you expect and that security hardware/software is working properly. Get in touch with ITWiser today and ask about our External Security Audit to find out more!
