CCleaner full of malware!
It has been reported that anti-virus firm Avast has admitted to distributing a version of CCleaner that is crammed with malware. The firm has said that this hasn’t been done deliberately but the devastation has spread rapidly and its affected 2.27 million users. The firm have been distributing this popular clean up tool for nearly a month.
The legitimate version of CCleaner 5.33 that was distributed by Avast also contained a multi-stage malware payload, this rode on top of the CCleaner installation. Researcher Cisco Talos notified Avast immediately with their findings so they could start the correct procedures.
CCleaner has been downloaded over 2 billion times and each week this number goes up by 5 million.
