A massive 880k sensitive credit card details likely stolen by hackers!
A statement released by US based Orbitz said it has discovered evidence of an intrusion. It would appear after an independent investigation that its central booking system was penetrated and names, payment card information, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, physical and or billing addresses and customers gender could have been stolen. It is likely that information was taken between January 2016 and December 2017. The company has expressed, “We deeply regret the incident, and we are committed to doing everything we can to maintain the trust of our customers and partners.”
The law on data protection is changing in May 2018 as the UK have chosen to adopt the EU legislation (EU)2016/679 regarding GDPR. These changes introduce many things that businesses need to be aware of with the most important being The ICO (Information Commissioner Office) are set to become the Supervisory Authority.
Large fines and penalties on the horizon such as 2% of global turn over for internal systems not being compliant and 4% of global turnover for a data breach.
