50,000 Virgin Media UK CVs hacked!
50,000 CVs have been stolen from Virgin Media, it was a bug in a third party website that exposed them. These are all CVs that Virgin Media has received over the years, they are all complete with addresses, names and email addresses.
This was down to having no access controls on a public server, the public server in question is where all the applicants were directed to when uploading their CVs. Alikhan Uzakov is a British student hacker, and he found he was able to view the files without being challenged or asked to log in. Uzakov said Roughly between 30,000 to 50,000 past and present applications were accessible.
The problem has now been resolved but Uzakov said if he was a person with malicious intentions he could have done a lot of damage and not have reported it at all. Virgin Media wouldn’t comment on the vulnerability.
