Equifax and the mega-breach!

It has been reported by the UK financial service regulators that they found out about the mega-breach through media reports. Equifax initially said that the breach that affected 145 million US consumers also hit 400,000 Brits. This admission came on the 15th September but then nearly a month later the firm admitted that they underestimated the impact of the breach against the UK customers.

Equifax have admitted that a file containing 15.2 million UK records between 2011 and 2016 has been exposed as a result of the breach. The majority of these were duplicates or test data meaning that almost 700,000 had actually been exposed, this is nearly double the original figure. Equifax have said that they will be contacting the affected users by post.
