Are you willing to learn?

In the world that we live in computers, networks and software play a massive part in our lives, in both personal and work life. In certain industries if these systems aren’t functioning then people wouldn’t be able to work which would be costing money. Therefore, it’s essential that companies keep their networks stable and protected so that their systems are always available.

Major security issues and data breaches are happening far too often. Some of these incidents will lead to companies going into administration or result in companies making losses.

Brian Honan who is a special advisor on internet security to Europol spoke about these issues at a conference in Dublin last Thursday. He said that these failures in cybersecurity should be used as an opportunity to learn lessons and hopefully prevent them from happening again. Hanon used a very good analogy involving commercial airlines, Fatal accidents per 1 million flights has decreased since 1978 from 4 to less than 1 in 2016. Learning from incidents will decrease the chance of it happening again, instead of making the same mistakes learn from them and act upon them.
